Established in 2022, Mr. Joseph Melchiori founded Dirt Digital Terrain Modeling LLC to provide affordable support solutions, including 3D site modeling and machine control support, to regional contractors and professionals without sacrificing quality. From field to finish, our experience is the key to our specialized services. With over 15 years in construction surveying and civil design, Joe recognizes the critical importance of accuracy and clear, concise communication both on-site and in documentation. Our services encompass support for all major machine control systems, including Trimble and Topcon. Additionally, DIRT DTM is dedicated to troubleshooting and providing assistance with site-specific implementation and system issues.
DIRT DTM specializes in survey mapping and civil construction drafting, utilizing the latest Autodesk AEC Collection, including Civil 3D, and Trimble's Business Center software packages. We offer essential machine control support along with a computer-aided drafting option tailored for Professional Surveyors, Engineers, and Architects. Our services encompass 3D site modeling, plan preparation, and mapping development, enabling you to leverage powerful civil design software at an affordable cost.
Utilizing the same top-of-the-line software, DIRT DTM also prepares earthwork and import/export material take-offs, detailing highly accurate estimating that provides Contractors with a competitive edge in the bid preparation phase. These services are also highly valuable to design professionals and developers, as accurate budgeting can be the difference between project success and failure. Through advanced 3D site modeling constructed from Engineer-provided CAD files and/or bid documents (e.g., design plans, specifications, etc.), DIRT DTM leverages these models to provide precise material take-offs, site earthwork balancing, and customized construction process planning and tracking that aligns with your civil design approach. Additionally, DIRT DTM offers machine control support to optimize project execution.
DIRT DTM DOES NOT provide Professional Surveying and Engineering services. Many states, including Michigan, require that specific plans and survey mapping documents submitted for governmental agency approval or record be prepared under the supervision and sealed by a Licensed Surveyor, Engineer, and/or Architect. While DIRT DTM assists in the preparation of these documents and files, the CLIENT is responsible for retaining the proper licensed professional for final preparation, review, sealing, and approval, if required. DIRT DTM collaborates with various licensed professionals and can recommend firms that offer these services, as well as work with an individual or firm of your choosing.

DIRT DTM offers exports that can be utilized in most machine control systems and surveying equipment, catering specifically to 3D site modeling and civil design needs. These exports include equipment-specific outputs for Trimble Access, Trimble SCS900, Trimble Siteworks, Topcon 3D-MC, and Topcon Pocket 3D. We also provide interchangeable formats compatible with various other equipment providers, including Leica. Additionally, we offer machine control support and troubleshooting for field operations, addressing issues such as proper datum selection, GPS equipment calibration, and data import errors.
DIRT DTM provides CAD support for 3D site modeling and civil design using the Autodesk AEC Collection, which includes Civil 3D and Recap, as well as Trimble Business Center and Topcon 3D Office. Additionally, we offer machine control support and can process drone imagery for aerial mapping in PIX4D mapper upon request.
We work with all data types related to Survey, Mapping, and Design, including CAD files, survey and bathymetry point files, point clouds from scanning, LiDAR, and photogrammetry. Our services also encompass access to and processing of national and state-produced LiDAR sets, aerial imagery, GIS shape files, Google Earth exports, and many more.
